Goals and Objectives
A ski area master development plan involves planning the removal or replacement of existing equipment, integrated with the addition of new facilities over time. Modern mountain resorts require the most efficient and user friendly lift and trail systems possible, with a good balance of terrain type and variety, adequate parking and skier service facilities. The Master Development Plan will be constructed over an extended period of time, therefore, it is necessary to have a complete understanding of the total project at build-out and in each separate phase, so that facilities can be balanced and capital invested effectively.
Objectives
The objectives of the Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort mountain development plan are as follows:
- Optimize the utilization and operational efficiency of the existing physical plant
- Balance lift and trail capacities wherever possible
- Provide maximum capacity for minimum capital and operating costs
- Provide base staging facilities in balance with mountain access and capacity requirements
- Continue to increase the quality of the facilities to meet the ever-increasing expectations of the local and destination skier markets
- Increase the quality of the beginner facilities and terrain
- Provide other recreational activities for year-round utilization of the facilities
- Each phase of development should provide an optimally balanced facility, while at the same time, move towards the ultimate goal
- Define goals and projects to guide management and inform public agencies during the ensuing 10-year period
- Since environmental stewardship is of the highest priority, all facilities and activities, both summer and winter, will be located, constructed and undertaken in an environmentally sensitive manner. Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort is committed to sustainable development. Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort will develop and submit environmental plans for the following areas: Erosion and Sediment Control, Water Management, Watershed Protection, Solid Waste Management, Liquid Waste Management, Drainage Control and Stormwater Management, Vegetation Management, Air Quality Management and Monitoring, Energy Management and Conservation and Wildlife Management.
Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort's goal is to refer to the guidelines set forth in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) for the structures that are constructed as part of the Master Plan. This program is a set of sustainable design guidelines (LEED) developed by the US Green Building Council to reduce the environmental impact of projects as they are built. Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort will use this environmental assessment tool to provide a standard of measurement and to set goals that will focus on sustainable site design, water efficiency, energy efficiency, materials and resources used and indoor environmental quality.
The LEED Certification system includes evaluation of the following criterion:
1. Sustainable Sites - Construction activity pollution prevention, site selection, density, Brownfield redevelopment, alternative transportation, protect or restore habitat, maximize open space, stormwater design, heat island effect, light pollution reduction.
2. Water Efficiency - Water efficient landscaping, innovative wastewater technologies, water use reduction.
3. Energy & Atmosphere - Fundamental commissioning of the building energy systems, minimum energy performance, fundamental and enhanced refrigeration management, optimize energy performance, on-site renewable energy, measurement and verification, green power.
4. Materials and Resources - Storage and collection of recyclables, percentage of building reuse, percentage of construction waste management, percentage of materials reuse, percentage of recycled content, percentage of regional material used, use of rapidly renewable materials, certified wood.
5. Indoor Environmental - Minimum IAQ performance, environmental tobacco smoke control, outdoor air delivery monitoring, increased ventilation, construction IAQ management plan before and during construction, low emitting materials, indoor chemical & pollutant source control, controllability of lighting and thermal systems, thermal comfort design and verification, percentage of daylight and views.
6. Innovation & Design Process - Innovation in design goals, retaining a LEED accredited professional.
We are committed to sustainable development. Our goal is to explore the most efficient alternative energy technology available, such as co-generation, geothermal, solar and wind power. We will also work with the local power utility to do a feasibility study for running a power line to the ski area.
Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort is committed to reducing their carbon footprint. The resort will make every effort to use bio fuels and leading technology in our vehicle fleet. This could include bio diesel, ethanol, propane, natural gas, and hybrids.
